In August of 2010 The Temecula Valley Young Marines were asked if they could provide support to the Murrieta detachment #1057 of the Marine Corps League. Normally this event is handled by Mr. Don Krampe he however had an invitation this year to join the President of South Korea for the 60th anniversary of the Inchon Landing. Mr. Krampe asked CO Guiles if the Young Marines could provide support for this event. For this Ceremony Young Marine's MGySgt. Guiles, N was the Orator reading America's
Creed, SgtMaj. Guiles and Sgt. Aguilar raised and then lowered the flag to half mast for the playing of taps which was played by 1Sgt. Currier. CO Guiles and Mrs. Aguilar were present as the adult staff for this event.
The small cadre provided excellent support for the Marine Corps Leagues 9/11 Remembrance ceremony. As this ceremony concluded the Young Marines made a fast exit with lots thank you's from the residents and the Marine Corps League. The cadre left the City of Murrieta and drove to the City of Fallbrook were they joined the rest of the unit staff and the Young Marines for a huge 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.
9/11 Remembrance in the City of Fallbrook
The City of Fallbrook held a beautiful 9/11 remembrance ceremony that our Young Marines were lucky to participate in. Mary Ann and Bob Hillery of Fallbrook meet YM/PFC Avianna Smith at a funeral. They got to talking and YM/PFC Smith told them all about the Temecula Valley Young Marines. Mr. and Mrs. Hillery thought that it would be inspirational if the Young Marines participated in Fallbrook’s 9/11 Remembrance event and they got in touch with Mrs. Guiles, the unit’s Adjutant. CO Guiles and Mrs. Guiles went to a planning meeting at Fallbrook’s Chamber of Commerce and helped decide how the Young Marines could support the ceremony.
The Fallbrook cadre of Young Marines and families met at 0830 to caravan and carpool to Fallbrook. Mrs. Guiles, Mrs. Munoz, and Mr. Criske all convoyed to the city of Fallbrook. The CO and his small cadre were at another 9/11 Remembrance ceremony in the city of Murrieta and would arrive later in the morning. After a quick accountability formation the Young Marines marched to their positions and were ready to go. At 0930 Mrs. Guiles met up with Mr. Hillery to discuss the presentation of the flags and how to march on the Young Marines. After a few practices the Young Marines were lined up and ready to go. The CO and Mrs. Aguilar arrived just in time, Mrs. guiles explained how everything would be working at the event and the setup. The Ceremony kicked off right at 1100 as scheduled with Mr. Hillery welcoming everyone. The Fallbrook VFW provided the Color Guard while the Temecula Valley Young Marines marched on the 22 American flags that would be placed into slots on the four corners of the event. As the ceremony continued the Young Marines remained in the back and stood in formation and watched the ceremony. Mr. Rob Koudelka a retired New York Firefighter who was at ground zero on 9/11/2001 told everyone of his harrowing experience. As Mr. Koudelka’ s speech concluded he joined a Marine Corps Colonel and San Diego Sheriff in the ringing of the bells for 9/11. As the ceremony concluded there were lots of thank yous to be heard to Mr. Koudlka, the Young Marines, and to the City Council. The ceremony ended at 1200 and the Unit Adjutant setup a picture with Mr. Koudelka and the Young Marines in front of the enormous American flag. It turned out to be a very memorable ceremony. With a quick march to the vehicles and an accountability formation some Young Marines were released to their parents and the others convoyed back to Temecula. Outstanding job Young Marines !!! |
