Former Temecula Valley Young Marine Attends the US Air Force Academy

Brittney Lyn Garrett at right is currently attending the United States Air Force Academy. Mrs. Garrett had also received a full scholarship to West Point Academy.

 

Brittney Lyn Garrett was the honor graduate from Temecula Valley Young Marines recruit class 01-02. Brittney was in the Temecula valley Young Marines until September of 2003. Brittney received two Congressional nominations to a United States service academy. Mrs. Garrett had her choice between the West point Military Academy or the United States Air Force Academy. Mrs. Garrett chose the Air Force Academy where she received a four year scholarship. Brittney's aspirations will take her to work for NASA, the NSA or at the Pentagon.

During her school years Brittney maintained a 3.80 GPA and participated in many different school and other various military activities. During her sophomore year Mrs. Garrett participated in events like the VFW's voice democracy audio essay for the City of Temecula in which she took 1st place in November of 2003. Mrs. Garrett then went on to take 3rd place in the District level for the same competition in December of 2003. In 2004 Mrs. Garrett again participated in the VFW's voice of democracy audio essay in November of 2004 she took 1st place again for the City of Temecula. In December of 2004 Mrs. Garrett participated in the Voice of Democracy at the District level (which involved 31 cities) she took 2nd place. Not to be out done Mrs. Garrett competed one last time in her Senior year at the voice of democracy competition and placed 1st in the City of Temecula in November of 2005. In December of 2005 Mrs. Garrett competed again at the district level for the VFW's voice of democracy contest and this time she took 1st place. In january of 2006 Mrs. Garrett traveled to Sacramento for 3 days with the VFW District Winners. Mrs. Garrett was the 1st runner up (2nd place) in the State Competition of 2,200 entries for the VFW Audio Essay Competition.

Mrs. Garrett was also on the Varsity girls Wrestling team, Opening speaker at numerous Veterans luncheons and Parades. Mrs Garrett also volunteered her time at the Sterling Senior Citizens home from 2002 to 2003. We at the Temecula Valley Young Marines wish Mrs. Garrett the best of luck in her academy years and the very best of luck in her future endeavors. She has shown our Young Marines that hard work can and will pay off in the end.
