On the early morning of July 22nd the Temecula Valley Young Marines Color guard and Security Force left the National Encampment and proceeded to Naval Air station Coronado. The anticipation grew in the Young Marines as they neared the Aeration they had been waiting for this day since April of this year. The Unit was asked by Lt.Cmdr Duane "Dingo" Foster of the VR57 Squadron to present the colors at the Change of Command Ceremony on July 22nd. Lt.Cmdr> Foster also asked if the Temecula Valley Security Force would help man the gates at the main entrance to the Naval Air station.

Upon Arriving at the naval Air station the Temecula Valley Security Force was dropped off at the main gate with an adult staff member here the Security Force manned the main gate. The Young Marines would check ID's, Salute incoming Officers give an Ooh-Rah to Marines as they passed through and turn away those who had no ID to come onto the base. According to the Security Force most of the Military personnel said it was motivating to see the Young Marines on the gate but some seemed confused at the same time. When some Youngster asked why they get to do this job they were told because they are Young Marines. The Security Force Platoon Sergeant Young Marine SSgt. Joshua Guiles went on a ride along with the MP's and saw first hand how the MP's handle business up front and personal when pulling someone over or responding to a call.

The day was filled with a hot breeze but the Temecula Valley Color Guard positioned themselves and then when the music started and the orders to march on the colors were rendered out the marched. The color guard went out into the airfield in all their glory flags flying and the crowd saying nothing but ooooh's and ahhh's. It was a particular honor to march out the colors for this change of command, since the United States Navy are so impressed with the Temecula Valley Young Marines to stand down their own Naval Color Guard. The Colors were presented for the Change of Command of Commander Thomas Hartmann (The Outgoing Commanding Officer) and Commander Perry Parisi (Oncoming Commanding Officer). When it was all over and done with the Young Marines took some pictures with Rear Admiral jeffrey Lemmons and then the Young Marines and their staff were invited on board the USS Nimitz for a personal tour of the Aircraft carrier and a thank you for a job well done. The Young Marines then returned to the National Encampment the security took there position and manned there posts while the Color Guard stood down and resumed all of the activities. All in a days work for these Young Marines.
