COMNAVSURFPAC Det. A Retirement Ceremony
In June, LTJG Boudreau asked CO Guiles if our Unit could provide a Color Guard for a retirement ceremony in honor of Captain Jordan of COMNAVSURFPAC Det. A. CO Guiles checked our unit’s training schedule and was able to provide LTJG Boudreau with the unit’s Alpha team Color guard. At 1130 Am on October 21st, 2007 CO Guiles, LO Aguilar and PV John Masters drove the color Guard down to Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. The Color Guard arrived early to practice and scout out the area and helped the United States Navy coordinate their retirement ceremony with our Young Marine color guard. The unit’s color guard was being led by YM/GySgt. Joshua Guiles and Consisted of YM’s Sgt. Noelani Hedlund, Sgt. Amber Fitzpatrick, Cpl. Jenna Fitzpatrick, LCpl. John Masters and LCpl. Brady Redick. The color guard practiced for a while in the atrium of the COMNAVSURFPAC Det. A Headquarters

. As everyone started to arrive the color guard then practiced a few times with the sailors of COMNAVSURFPAC so they all were on the same sheet of paper. Capt. Jordan talked to the Young Marines before the ceremony and thanked each one for taking their time to provide him a color guard. The Young Marines took a picture with Capt. Jordan before the ceremony began
and then they promptly took their places.
The Sailors marched in and took their places as did the Temecula Valley Young Marines Color Guard
and the Company Gunny
. The bell was rung to pipe aboard the Command Staff as they marched up saluted
and proceeded so did YM/GySgt. Guiles. YM/GySgt. Guiles took his place and the color Guard got ready. The MC Asked YM/GySgt. Guiles to March on the colors YM/GySgt. Guiles faced half left Saluted and replied in a loud voice “SIR, MARCH ON THE COLORS AYE, AYE SIR!!” YM/GySgt. Guiles yelled out the command to his color guard “COLOR GUARD, MARCH ON THE COLORS!! YM/Sgt. Hedlund marched her Color Guard forward and down the aisle in the atrium
all eyes were on them with cameras flashing they looked good as the color guard passed YM/GySgt. Guiles saluted. The Color guard made their counter march
and took their places to present the colors
the National Anthem was played and the colors were presented. The MC asked YM/GySgt. Guiles to post the colors again with a turn half left Saluted and again replied with a loud voice ““SIR, POST THE COLORS AYE, AYE SIR!!” YM/GySgt. Guiles then repeated the order to his Color Guard “COLOR GUARD, POST THE COLORS!!” the color guard promptly stepped off in unison to the rear of the atrium did a counter march and took their place in the back of the atrium. YM/ GySgt. Guiles then marched to the back of the atrium where YM/LCpl Redick stepped off right behind YM/GySgt. Guiles it was perfect in unison no missed step and they both marched up to the rear of the sailors in formation
. The Young Marines had been asked earlier to join the formation for the retiring Officers final inspection. YM’s GySgt. Guiles and LCpl. Redick stood in the rear of the formation as Capt. Jordan made his way through and inspecting the Sailors

. Capt. Jordan was then presented his retirement flag that had been carried by our units training Officer LTJG Boudreau

. At the conclusion of the ceremony Capt. Jordan came by to personally thank each Young Marine for an outstanding color guard for his retirement. As Capt. Jordan talked to each Young Marine he handed each a Challenge Coin
,
. When he got to Young Marine GySgt. Guiles he was presented a Fair Winds and following seas retirement coin from the Young Marine
.
The COMNAVSURFPAC Commanding Officer, Commander Anderson stopped and thanked CO Guiles for providing the unit’s color guard and commented on how squared away they looked and performed. Commander Anderson then thanked each Young Marines for taking their Sunday off to provide a color guard for the United States Navy. The best Compliment came from a Sailor that was on the Navy’s color guard which had been stood down for us to perform. The sailor told CO Guiles that he and the others could not believe how good the Young Marines were. The Sailor said he was ashamed to admit it but the Young Marines were better than Navy’s color guard. It was a long day but well worth it when we can directly support the forces that guard our country. Outstanding job Young Marines, OOH-Rah!! And Fair Winds and Following seas to you Captain Jordan, US Navy retired it was our pleasure to be there for you.
