38th Annual Murrieta Fathers Day Car Show

The Temecula Valley Young Marines provided support for the City of Murrieta this past weekend on Fathers Day June 15th, 2008 from 0600 to 0900. The Units Young Marines were out in force to help guide cars into their places at the city’s car show. The Young Marines helped guide in and park 400 classic cars at this event this was the Young Marines 5th year working this event. The Young Marines stood in two ranks and were yelling Happy Fathers, Good morning Sir or Mam and the occasional ooh-Rah! To a driver as they passed by.  It was an early morning event with the CO, Mrs Guiles and YM/1stSgt guiles all arriving at 0530 and setting up the CP to accept the Young Marines arriving at 0600 . By 0605 the CO had his formation and head count and off the Young Marines, CO and Mr. Smith went . The Young Marines were in place by 0615 fifteen minutes before the cars were to come in . The newest Young Marines were paired with a Young Marine that had been at the event in the past. The CO had one half of the field with a group of Young Marines and Mr. Smith had the other half of the field with another group of Young Marines.  It was another amazing event as car after classic car would roll in to the staging are , , . Eventually the drivers would meet Young Marine Cpl. Blake, Cpl. Blake’s job was to greet the incoming drivers and to welcome them to the car show , . While the Young Marines were still guiding in the cars people would park their cars and then walk up the hill to the Units CP there they would tell Mrs. Guiles (the Unit Adjutant) just how special the Young Marines made them feel as they drove in. a lot of people also came up to the Adjutant to ask about the Young Marines and how they can get their kids involved. Mrs. Guiles would give them all of the particulars and hand them out one of the units recruiting packages.

It was another fun and exciting day for the Young Marines, this was their 5th year participating in this event. And the Young Marines just keep getting better; this was a great community service event. The Young Marines were invited over to the eating area and treated to a great pancake breakfast. The breakfast was provided by the Murrieta little league one of the coaches asked an umpire. Is this the same group that presented the colors at our opening game the answer was yes. The umpire also added “these kids Young Marines are great I love seeing them in action. At the end of the day someone who really appreciated the Young Marines and their parents for taking time during fathers day to help their city. Made a substantial donation to the unit for the unit’s upcoming deployment in November. For all of the Young Marines who spent a few hours to help their city on father’s day you did an outstanding job. And for all of the fathers that let their young Marines work for a few hours on your day thank you, and we hope you had a wonderful father’s day .
