Memorial Day Celebrations 2007

On Saturday May 26 th the Commanding Officer was called by the Captain of Fire station #110 in Marina Del Rey. They were requesting the Young Marines be present to present the Colors at their Memorial Day event near the Ritz Carlton. The Commanding Officer called up the Young Marines who were on Color Guard and a small cadre for support . Upon Arrival at Marina del Rey the Young Marines were taken on a tour of Fire Station #110 . It was a beautiful fire station with views of the entire marina. The Young Marines were given a tour of the new ladder fire engine and how it operates. Fire Fighter Rudy Leon gave the Young Marines a very thorough tour and explained in detail what each component did . Some of the Young Marines were shown the engine’s cab where the captain sits and the driver . The tour continued to the third floor where the fire fighters slept, to the second floor where they ate and back down to the first floor. The CO asked fire fighter Mike Chuck where the fire pole was. Mr. Chuck said right here and opened up a door as he did a fire fighter came sliding down the pole. With a grin the CO asked if we could try? Mr. Chuck said of course we could. The CO and all of the Young Marines went back up to the third floor with Mr. Chuck. Mr. Chuck opened up the door and one by one the Young Marines and the CO slid down the fire pole . When everyone had a chance to slide down the pole, some three times or more… it was time to go. We had a job to do with the color guard. The Young Marines were given lunch and mingled a little with the guests of the Memorial Day Celebration. The Sea Cadets were also asked to present the colors at the same time as the Young Marines. The CO explained that two sets of colors could not be presented, it wasn’t proper thing to do. So, the Sea Cadets and the Young Marines compromised. The Young Marines along with the Sea Cadets guidon presented the colors while the Sea Cadets drill team performed , . All went well and as planned during the event YM/Cpl. Currier played taps and white doves were released , . The ceremony went well and the Young Marines and the Naval Sea Cadets shook hands and even posed together for a picture . The people that were in the audience were very thankful and appreciative that the Young Marines had come all the way from Temecula, 113 miles to present the Colors for their celebration. After the ceremony the Young Marines had desert and then were invited on a tour of the harbor via fir station #110’s fire boat . The Young Marines stood on deck as the boat toured the whole harbor . With the tour complete the Young Marines gave their boat operator Fire fighter Julius Leflore a motivating Oooh Rahh!! With a quick head count the Young Marines got into their vehicles and away they went… Back home and another mission complete. Outstanding job Young Marines and thank you to Engine # 110:
