Marine Corps Helicopter Simulators
For Friday the 13th, 2007 it was anything but an unlucky day for the Temecula Valley Young Marines. Our unit deployed to MCAS, Miramar in San Diego, California for a day of fun. When the unit arrived at the Marine Corps Air Station they were met by Cpl. Poulin and LCpl. Gosch from the base PAO (Public Affairs Office). The unit followed these two Marines to the CH46 and CH53 simulators. There they were informed that the CH53 simulator was down and would not be working today, but Major Lane a CH53 pilot offered to give a class to the Young Marines on the CH53’s capabilities with a great question and answer period
. Each group went into the CH46 simulator and the Young Marines were given 4 minutes each to fly the CH46 simulator

, . The Young Marines learned how to fly the helicopter, make it hover, land, go fast and slow, and also how to take off
. They learned new words such as pitch, yaw, rotors and the collective and just how fast these helicopters go. Major Lane gave the Young Marines a great class on just how strong and fast and what the capabilities of the CH53 helicopter are
,
. Great questions were asked of Major Lane such as “Why does he like to fly helicopters?” and “How come he went into the Marine Corps?” Major Lane also told the Young Marines about his route into the Marine Corps and that he was a 1994 graduate of Annapolis. The CO explained to Major Lane that our unit has at least 5 Young Marines that aspire to go into Annapolis. Major Lane said he would love to talk to those Young Marines and tell them how to take the path to go into Annapolis. After the simulator and question and answer period the Young Marines took a picture with Major Lane, Cpl. Poulin and LCpl. Gosch
.
The Young Marines were taken to the base’s chow hall for some good chow with our guides from PAO
. When lunch concluded the CO gave a Unit Certificate of Appreciation to Cpl. Poulin for all of his hard work in securing this day for the Young Marines. Before the unit left for home they took a little trip over to the Base Museum. The unit was split into two groups; Mr. Boudreau took one group and taught a class to his Young Marines on the different aircrafts. While CO Guiles took Parent Volunteer Mrs. Rivera and the female Young Marines and gave classes to them on the different types of Marine Corps aircrafts
