on April 24th and 25th the Temecula valley young Marines helped support the American Cancer Societies Murrieta relay for Life event. Our Young Marines arrived at 1600 on Friday April 24th, to help setup the Marietta Relay for Life poster, pop ups, tables and chairs the relay staff were very excited that the Young Marines showed up to help , , , , , . At 1800 the Young Marines went home and the Temecula Valley Young Marines Security Force arrived the Security force consisted of CO Guiles, YM's/ Sgt. Maj. Guiles, 1st Sgt. Currier, Cpl. Criske (In training), LCpl. Woodruff (in training), PFC. Bowker and Harley their Guard Dog . The Security Force manned the main entrance to the Relay and patrolled the fenced in Relay site to protect it from vandals from 1800 on Friday night until 0600 on Saturday morning , , .
At 0600 the tired cadre went home and prepared to assist again on again the night of the 15th.
On Saturday night the 25th all rested up the Temecula Valley Young Marines Security force arrived which contained CO Guiles, Mr. Criske, YM's? Sgt. Major Guiles, MGySgt. Guiles, 1st Sgt. Currier, Sgt. Redick, Cpl. Munoz (In training), Cpl. Criske (In training), LCpl. Woodruff (In training), PFC Rubio and PFC Bowker at the second day of the Murrieta Relay for Life. The Young Marines assignment started at 2130 and they were to man the entrance to the Relay and allow no one in that did not have a wrist ban to ensure the safety of the Relay participants. The Young Marines were awake all night and took turns patrolling the Relay site and the gate. A lot of people talked to the Young Marines as they patrolled and thanked them for keeping them safe. All was going smoothly at around 0300 a woman approached the Security force post with a little boy. she explained that the little boy with no shoes on had wandered into their camp crying and could not find his mom. The women could not get anything out of the little boy he simply would not talk, CO Guiles talked to the little boy who looked up and saw the CO and the Sgt. Major and his eyes got really wide when he saw all of the Camouflage uniforms. The CO asked the what his name was he told the CO his name, the CO asked if he knew where his campsite was the little boy said yes. CO Guiles asked the little boy who was no longer crying if he could show Young Marine Sgt. Major Guiles where he was camping. With a little grin the little boy guided the Sgt. Major to his camp site where he was returned to his mother.
At 0500 the Young Marines were dismissed it was a long night but it turned out good for the Young Marines who received a lot of complements. It was a long night Security Force and you did a great job I am proud of you Oooh- Rah!!!.
