It was a warm morning in Temecula, California you could tell the seasons were starting to change. This was a special morning for our Color Guard. They were requested to present the colors at the Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course to present the colors before the Oak Grove Golf Tournament could start. I know at first that it must sound kind of snobby of our color guard to be performing in front of a bunch of golfers getting ready to start whacking their golf balls all around for amusement and a prize. However this golf tournament was not for pure amusement and prizes. We do not perform for the shear benefit of a group or organization’s pleasure. This tournament was the 5th annual Oak Grove Golf Classic, at this year’s golf classic all proceeds will benefit the Oak Grove’s Recreational & Sports programs and the addition of two classrooms specializing in the treatment of children with autism. So, for us it was indeed an honor to take a few hours to present the colors and say the pledge of allegiance before this golf tournament. Our color guard consisted of Young Marine 1st Sgt Katie Aguilar, YM/Sgt’s Amber Fitzpatrick and Noelani Hedlund and YM/LCpl’s Jenna Fitzpatrick and John Masters Jr
. They waited patiently until the time was set to start, to look sharp and to step off. Young Marine 1st Sgt. Katie Aguilar marched out and took her position she raised her sword and in a firm voice announced “March on the colors”!! The color guard stepped off in unison they reached their position and presented the colors
,
. The pledge of allegiance was recited by all in attendance. When it was time 1st Sgt Katie Aguilar announced “Retire the colors”!! The Color Guard did a counter march and smartly marched off of the green
. When the procession was over there were a lot of cheers and thank-yous for the Young Marines. The best thank you of all came from the City of Temecula’s Mayor Chuck Washington
,
. He stopped what he was doing and took a picture with our Temecula Valley Young Marine’s Color Guard. Mayor Washington told the units Adjutant Mrs. guiles how much he loved our Young Marines. Another eventful day for the Temecula Valley Young Marines, and a great community service for the cities of Temecula and Murrieta and the staff at Oak Grove. Ooh-Rah Temecula Valley Young Marine’s Color Guard you made your CO and your unit proud today.
