Figure Eight Knot: The Figure 8 knot, is the mostly widely used and one of the strongest anchor knots used in the Military Mountaineering. The knot can also be used in the middle of the rope for an anchor point this is called a directional figure of 8.

Safety: The knot is a self binding knot some people add extra protection on the running end by using an over hand as a stopper knot. However with extreme load placed on the knot there is no need for this..

Variations: These can included the double loop figure of eight, retracable figure of eight and the directional figure of eight.

The Directional Figure Eight: is preferred when a figure eight loop is being created to take a load or when you are wishing to set up 3 load points.
