The Knot: The Square Knot is used to join to pieces of rope together, the knot is no complete until you tie an overhand knot at each end. If the overhand knots are not tied then the square knot will undo itself while it is in use. Uses: The Square knot is used in Rappelling when you're trying to join two pieces of Rappel rope together in order to lengthen the rope. at times we use the Square knot to help join two ends of our rope together when we use a rappel seat. Variations: When the Square Knot is used it is common to add additional half hitches or overhand knots as security. |
