Operation Christmas Lift, 2009
When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things - not the great occasions - give off the greatest glow of happiness."
~ Bob Hope, American film actor and comedian."A TEMECULA VALLEY YOUNG MARINES CHRISTMAS POEM"
"Twas the month before Christmas and all through the training shed not a creature was stirring not even a mouse, except 32 Young Marines and the Adult Leaders. They stood there wrapping and dividing and packing with care. gifts for our US troops who are fighting over there. The Young Marines took great care as they were handed DVDs, candy, drink mixes and hygiene gear. The CO said with a shout wait don't forget the Santa hats and the elf ears make sure they are packed. The Adjutant gave the Young Marines cards for each to sign. Merry Christmas to you we all miss you and thank you for protecting our country. Now the CO said lets wrap up the boxes good and tight make sure they are packed just right. With a wave of his hand the CO laid tape to the boxes and in a moment they were sealed. The CO said with a shimmer in his eye these will make it Afghanistan before Christmas night. A few days later the boxes were delivered to a plane leaving that day with presents for Marines and Sailors far, far away. So as we sit there on Christmas eve remember that there are those who sacrifice this day for us so we can be merry on the most special of days. Merry Christmas to our troops we wish you well and above all stay safe and return from over there."
On November 22nd, 2009 the Temecula valley Young Marines spent that drill day wrapping boxes for Marines and Sailors deployed in Afghanistan. The Young Marine parents donated items for the boxes such as single bottle drink mixes
,
instant coffle, spices, hygiene gear, eye drops, candy, and all sorts of other christmas cheer. The unit boxed up 860 DVD's
. To make even more of a Christmas the DVD's were placed in smaller boxes that were individually wrapped as a Christmas present for any Marine or Sailor to enjoy
,
. towards the end of the wrapping session the CO stuffed in decorations, Santa hats and Elf ears that were donated for the boxes as well. The Young Marines all signed cards to be placed in the boxes
,
. The next day Sgt. Noe brought the boxes down to MCAS Miramar were they were deployed with other Christmas gear to Afghanistan. We hope the packages made it to their destinations and that all of those who recieved them have a safe Christmas over there.
Outstanding job Young Marines thank you for spreading the Christmas cheer!!!
