A Presidential Proclamation

On September 8th, 2007 CO Guiles presented his staff with a special award. About five Months ago commanding Officer Guiles sent off a letter to our Country’s First Lady. In his letter he asked if a special letter could be sent to his staff for all of their devotion to the Young Marines and their unit. The unit has been going strong for the last past 5 years they have succeeded in crushing the proverbial “box” and have been operating outside of it. They have pushed their unit to new heights and have shown others that there is no limits to what a unit can do when they operate as a team and show the Young Marines adventures they never thought they would do.  CO Guiles received a few cell phone calls from the First Lady’s office, and what ensued next surprised even CO Guiles. CO Guiles was informed that the President and the First Lady would like to present the staff of the Temecula Valley Young Marines with a special Volunteer’s Proclamation.  Although it has taken a few months CO Guiles kept his secret from even his wife until the day he presented the proclamations to his staff in a formation in front of the Young Marines. The CO sent the First Lady’s office a list of staff names (shown below) of his dedicated staff members:

                   Mrs. Guiles          –      Unit Adjutant
Mrs. Aguilar        –      Unit Logistics Officer
Mr. Aguilar         -        Unit Executive Officer
Ms. Aguilar         -       Female Advisor / Assistant Medical Officer
LTJG Boudreau –     Unit Training Officer
                   SSgt. Guevara     –    Unit Instructor
                   Sgt. Jones            –    Unit Instructor
                   Sgt. Lingefelt       –    Unit Instructor
                   Sgt. Sparks          –    Unit Instructor

CO Guiles was happy when he presented the proclamations to his staff the question was asked where his was. CO Guiles responded that he was taught in the Marine Corps the CO receives his award when he gets to watch or present his troops or staff with their awards. When the Commanding Officer’s staff receives an award he or she also receives an award simply by just knowing that his staff is devoted to his unit enough to follow his orders. By completing even the most daunting of tasks as a team and without hesitation this is what our Young Marines see and this is what they will emulate and carry with themselves in life. CO Guiles also included a thn ak you letter with the Presidents Proclomation. This has truly been an inspiring day for us. Ooh-Rah to the Staff of the Temecula Valley Young Marines.
