The Presidents Volunteer Service Awards

On September 29th at 2230, the Units Adjutant Mrs. Guiles completed her task that she had started at 1300. Mrs. Guiles entered the last few hours of community service into the Units account on the Presidential Volunteer Service Award website. It took the Adjutant a lot of time and effort to accomplish this task but in the end it was well worth it. At Drill on the 4th of November the Commanding Officer awarded each Young Marine who earned their Presidential Volunteer Service Award. We had 38 total awards that were given out.  It was a total surprise to all of the Young Marines and to their Parents. The CO told everyone that he had a special surprise for all of them.  Something to wear on their uniforms for the unit’s deployment to Washington, DC. Something special to spice up the uniform, the CO explained that it was something to wear and show everyone how hard you have worked. The CO Introduced the City of Temecula’s Mayor the honorable Chuck Washington in front of the Company Mayor Washington talks to the Young Mariens, The Young Marines listen to the Mayor ..

Mrs. Guiles, the unit adjutant, first announced the recipients for the President’s Volunteer Service Awards for the youth, Young Marines between the ages of 8 and 14.  Mrs. Guiles called out the Young Marines’ names, the award earned, and the total community service hours, then one by one they took one step backwards and filed out of the ranks and in front of Mayor Washington and CO Guiles to receive their bronze, silver, or gold pin and letters and certificates from the President Co Guiles Shows Mayor Washington the Presidential Awards, Mayor Washington congratulates YM/LCPl. Mooreman on his award, ,Mayor Washington congratulates YM/PFC Byers on her award, 1st Sgt. Aguilar marches up to get her award, .  The Youth Awards were followed by the Teen Awards, ages 15 and older.  Each Young Marine proudly walked up to Mayor Washington and CO Guiles to accept their awards.

After the Young Marines had been given their awards, Mrs. Guiles announced the grand total of community service hours of  these President’s Volunteer Service Awards…. 4,163 hours in one year! The unit listens to Mayor Washinton congratulate them on their hard work after recieving their awards, Mayor Washington watches as CO Guiles hands the unit back over to YM/GySgt. Guiles for dismissal. YM/GySgt. Guiles accumulated the most hours in the unit with 252 volunteer hours earning himself a Gold Award.

What a great feeling to have worked so hard and earned a special award from the President of the United States. Semper Fi Temecula Valley!! And keep on working hard.
