Recruit Training is upon us once again in the Temecula Valley Young Marines, Class 10-08 is moving along at a good pace. The Recruits all arrived on Saturday morning… They did not know what to expect, mass confusion, a little yelling, lots of orders, more confusion, and team building. Not to disappoint anyone, the Recruits of Class 10-08 got that and a little more than they bargained for. The first day of the training was madness and confusion. The recruits got their first classes taught by CO Guiles. They learned squad drill to understand the basics of drill before learning as a platoon (This is easier for the instructors to teach the recruit basic drill). At the end of the first day the recruits were dismissed and like a quick bolt of lightning they were gone. On Sunday the 20th our second day, all of the Recruits returned and they amazed the instructors by remembering where their squads were, how to work as a team and surprisingly we had squad leaders and a guide. The CO says this is a hungry recruit class and they seem eager to learn and ensure they do things right. We have only completed the first week and we have 8 more to go. The CO explained, to the Recruits, why they must follow orders and why we are so strict on learning them, as the CO put it “if you are 40 or 100 feet off of the deck and you do not listen to orders you may fall and get seriously hurt or hurt someone else.” The same goes for if we are on the Rifle, Pistol or Archery Ranges. You must learn how to follow orders and listen closely to what you are told, your safety and that of other Young Marines are our primary concern. The CO told the recruits that the faster they learn to work as a team and communicate the easier recruit training will be easier for them. At the end of recruit training on Sunday the CO gave all of the recruits a homework assignment along with their Recruit knowledge they must study. The were told in front of their parents that each of them has one week to clean their room before the next Recruit class.
