Since 2003 the Temecula Valley Young Marines have been working close with Commanding Officer Ian McLeod. It took our units two years to get enough money to help our sister unit down under in Adelaide, South Australia. In 2005 the Temecula Valley Young Marines formerly announced the affiliation between the Temecula Valley Young Marines and the Volunteer Cadet Corps Australian (Twin Eagle Marine Cadets). In June of 2007 the Australian Government formerly announced the acknowledgement of the Twin Eagles Marine Cadets. Commanding Officer (called Company Commander in Australia). CO McLeod has begun recruiting for their units first recruit training class to commence in the in August of 2007. It has taken our units about four years to get the Young Marine unit in South Australia up and running. Different laws and cultural difference have kept the distance which has now been closed. The Twin Eagles Young Marines will be loosely modeled on the Temecula Valley Young Marines. According to CO McLeod “Young people in Australia need something to look up to”. CO McLeod further states that “The Temecula Valley Young Marines are one of the best Young Marine units to be modeled after. The Patriotism that the Young Marines show in their country is something that our youth can use over here.” CO McLeod says that their recruit training will be modeled after the Temecula Valley Young Marines training which is the most in-depth and advanced training for his youth in his unit above other youth groups in Australia. CO McLeod will be instituting the Temecula Valley Young Marines Drug Demand Reduction manuals for their youth in Australia. The Temecula Valley Young Marines created an Australian Recruit Training Manual (ARTM) about two years ago. Which is based on the Temecula units own Recruit Training Manual (RTM) that has been updated and used for the last 5 years. The Temecula Valley Young Marines will be helping the Twin Eagles Marine Cadets with the acquisition of Camouflage uniforms for their Young Marines. The Twin Eagles motto is “Prodeo et patria” Latin for “God and Country”.
CO Mcleod expects to start Recruit Training by the 1st of August 2007, although the going has been slow for recruitment like all new things CO Mcleod states that once the unit starts it will be the biggest thing since vegemite. CO McLeod’s Marine Cadet Unit is going to be something new since Australia has no Marine Corps. CO McLeod States that the Younger crowd in Australia would relate the Marine Cadets to the American Marine Forces and the older crowd would relate them to the British Royal Marines. The upcoming Recruit Training class and adventures should be something that will awaken the youth down under. We in the Temecula Valley Young Marines look forward to helping out and training with our sister unit down under. Oooh-Rah!!! Twin Eagles Young Marines.
