Roy Rogers Rangers Pomona Fiargrounds 2010
The Roy Rogers Rangers Mounted Shooting club was formed in 2001 to promote the great sport of Mounted Shooting and the 'Spirit of the Game'. SASS Mounted Shooting is one of the nation's fastest growing equestrian sports. The elements of exhibition shooting, barrel racing, pole bending, and reining; all done while using two .45 caliber single action revolvers, loaded with 5 rounds each of black powder blanks to shoot ten balloon targets set in a random pattern called a 'stage'. Mounted shooters are timed through the stage determining raw time plus any penalties incurred; for instance, 5 seconds added to raw time for knocked over barrel, dropped gun, missed target. The contestant with the fastest overall time wins.
On Sunday September 19th 2010 CO Guiles, Mrs. Guiles, Mrs. Munoz and Mr. Criske (with a little transportation help from the Gonzales family) and a cadre of (10) Young Marines were out in force to help support the Roy Rogers Rangers at the Pomona Fairgrounds. the Young Marines did the normal event with blowing the ballons, replacing the shot balloons

, It is pretty neat to watch the riders ride the horse and shoot the balloens

when the event was over we helped out by Police calling the area and helped to repack the equipment back up. It was a warm day and a lot of work had to be done, but in the end the Young Marines had a lot of fun and even earned a small donation for the unit from all of the riders. At the end of the day when all of the shooting was done the Young Marines and the staff took off fora small tour of the fair the Young Marines bought themselves smoothies, Ice Cream Churros and Slushy's
