Temecula Valley Young Marines and SONGS join forces to support AMVETS and Operation DVD
In February of this year Mrs. Madeline Blake, the mother of Young Marine LCpl. Jarrod Blake, contacted her bosses Mr. Robert Corbett and Andrew Martinez to see if San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) could help both the deployed troops and their families back home with Operation DVD. They helped Mrs. Blake get in touch with Mr. Ray Golden, Corporate Communications Manager, who gave permission to set up the collection boxes at various work sites. Communications Specialist, Mrs. Mayra Alvarado, made and sent out flyers to all mail locations on both plant and MESA sides. While Mrs. Blake collected donated CDs and DVDs plant side, her friend, Mr. R.K. Morrison, collected them on the training/MESA side.
As of this post, SONGS employees, many of whom are prior military, have donated 480 DVD's, 356 CD's and 4 brand new DVD players.
The Temecula Valley Young Marines will be going through the DVDs and sorting the children's DVDs from the other DVDs. The Young Marines will then take the children's DVDs to a local military base to be given out to the families of those service personnel that are deployed. The other DVDs and CDs will be sent over to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Recovery hospitals in Germany along with the (4) new DVD players.
This Commanding Officer would like to thank all of those who are responsible at SONGS for helping our troops enjoy safe entertainment as well as helping their families be a little bit more comfortable while their loved ones are deployed. Without the help of Corporations such as SONGS our mission to help our troops in Operation DVD would be much more difficult. The Temecula Valley Young Marines are proud to have SONGS as a supporter. Semper Fi!
