Scary Nights and Uniform Inspections
Halloween is here ghost and goblins and monster galore.......
ok well in this case just Young Marines, Parents and friends all made up in costumes, masks, and make-up. Every year at this time, Bill and Tish Johnson, owners of Vail Lake resort have a Haunted Hayride, Haunted House and other attractions. It runs every Friday and Saturday night for three weekends and runs until around 2230 (10:30PM). The Young Marines, their parents, and friends all volunteer to work at this event for Bill and Tish. In return for helping out at this event the Temecula Valley Young Marines receive a portion of the proceeds as well as permission to use the Vail Lake resort for training and their Headquarters. It takes a lot to put this Halloween event together. It took CO Guiles, YM/GySgt. Joshua Guiles and our former Young Marine and soon to be staff member Josh Smith, from August 29th until October 5th to build the Haunted House. They spent every night Mon-Friday and a few weekends to build the Haunted House

. The trio would meet at Vail Lake at around 1730 and end around 2000 for 42 days, that totals about 118 hours of work! Whew!!! At the same time the CO would run out and help set up the Haunted Hayride as well, double whew!!! According to the guests it was all well worth it, everyone is complimenting Bill and Tish on how great the Haunted House and the Hayride were. In fact, they keep coming back! On November 1st Vail Lake opens up reservations for Halloween 2008! Before you know it, Vail Lake Resort is all booked up for next year’s event. Every night the unit has provide over 70 volunteers to man these attractions with Young Marines and their family and friends. At the end of the night the unit Adjutant Mrs. Guiles signs all of the Young Marines friend’s community service sheets and thanks them all for helping out. It is a great time for all there were about 150 per night going through the Haunted House and 500 going on the Haunted Hayride. Good job Young Marines you worked hard for 3 weeks….Oct. 12 & 13, Oct 19 & 20, Oct. 26 & 27 it was well worth it. Oooh- Rah!!
Yes, it is that time again… Deployment time! This is the time of year the CO loses his mind with logistics and concerns for the unit’s deployment. One thing he does not have to worry about is the Young Marines’ uniforms. Our Logistics Officer Mrs. Aguilar has made sure that enough uniforms were acquired for our Young Marines to have two sets of Bravos and Charlies
. This weekend was the last weekend for the CO’s inspection before deploying. The CO inspected each Young Marine and if needed sent them over to Mrs. Rivera, and Ms. Aguilar standing by to sew on Young Marine patches and hem up their uniforms
. The Young Marines were looking sharp and ready to go, the excitement builds before we deploy every year around this time
