SOCAL 50 "Fat tire" Mile Bike Race
On October the 3rd 2009, the Temecula Valley Young Marines were asked to provide support to the first annual SOCal 50 mile "Fat tire" bike race. The race coordinator Mr. Jason Ronoa is a Former Army Solider and Bike enthusiast when Mr. Ronoa started planning for the bike race he had contacted CO Guiles to ask for assistance. The CO found out the particulars and asked his staff if we could support this event. As it turns out the unit was able to help provide support for this event. As the race began CO Guiles. Sgt. Sparks, and Parent volunteers Mr & Mrs. Turner, Mr. Watje and Mr. Talbert helped ensure the Young Marines were safe and had plenty of water. As the Race began the small cadre of young Marines formed up So Young Marine MSgt. Guiles could get an accurate head count
. The Young Marines marched over and met with Mr. Ronoa
who explained what he need the young Mariens to do and how to identify the Professional bike races from the amateur racers. The Young Marines would hold up signs with the racers last initial
,
when the racers would line up the Young Marines would mark in sharpie an "A" or "B" signifying thie racers status. With a yell from the bullhorn the race was off!!
There was a little time between stations so the Young marines made themselves busy with a knowledge game
. When the time came the Young Marines headed out to their positions at traffic control points within the resort
. The Young Marines were only present for a few hours but they made a big impact when helping in this community event. The rest of the unit was busy with the unit Adjutant Mrs. Guiles at the units annual Yard Sale fundrasier.
As always outstanding job Young Marines and staff Ooh-rah!!
