Stories of Service “Lucky’s story”

On February 28th, 2009 the Temecula Valley Young Marines were honored to help kick off the Stories of Service National Campaign. Our unit’s first story focused on Mr. Lucky Brugnola a Pearl Harbor Survivor and member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Shaw. Mr. Brugnola and his wife Grace opened their home to the Stories of Service personnel and the Young Marines for his interview. The Young Marines sat and listened to Mr. Brugnola’s story, it is amazing that he survived that fateful day on December 7th 1941. (To read Mr. Brugnola's story click here).

We hope to have Mr. Brugnola’s film completed and up on the internet by the end of the month. To find out more about the Stories of Service project or to volunteer your Young Marines visit their website at http://www.digiclub.org/sofs/index.php?page_id=4 You can also email Mr. Warren Hegg who heads up the Stories of Service project at WARREN@DIGICLUB.ORG. This is a great venture for our Young Marines it takes just a moment of their time. Everyone knows a veteran who served during World War II; that the Young Marines can interview for their first story.

Mr. Hegg has asked our unit to relay to all of the Young Marine units to try and focus in on any World War II Marine Corps veterans. Hopefully more Young Marine units will join in and help the Stories of Service project chronicle our veteran’s great sacrifices. Your Young Marines can actually learn about this war first hand from those who survived it. So email Mr. Hegg and visit the Stories of Service website and let’s show the country what the Young Marines can really do.

“The Stories of Service project is designed to help chronicle the stories of our country’s veterans. Stories of Service mobilize youth volunteers across America to help those who served our nation star in their own “mini-movies.” These short videos educate and inspire future generations about courage, sacrifice and service to community.

Using computers and digital editing software, youth participants combine photos, music, sound effects and the veteran’s own voice to create powerfully moving “Digital Stories” that are being shared with schools, libraries and museums and with a worldwide audience on the Internet.  More than just oral histories, many of these multimedia videos have the “look and feel” of Ken Burns’ series THE WAR and professional documentaries. For 2008-2009, Stories of Service is focusing its efforts on a major initiative to capture the stories of the World War II generation.”
