The City of Temecula Valley honors their

Young Marines

Members of the Temecula Valley Young Marines met at Temecula’s City Hall on January 9th, at 1900. The group of 20 Young Marines their CO, Adjutant, Logistics Officer, Command Chronologist and parents arrived at City Hall to accept an award for all of their hard work . The Mayor of Temecula Mr. Chuck Washington called the Commanding Officer and his Young Marines to the front of the Council . The Mayor read the citation to the Commanding Officer and the Young Marines , .  The room was very silent and the Young Marines looked sharp. The Mayor then handed the Citation over to the city's Mayor Pro-Tem Mr. Michael S. Naggar. Mr. Naggar shook the CO's hand and congratulated him and the Young Marines on a job well done . The Commanding Officer then spoke and thanked the Mayor of Temecula for the unit's recognition , . The CO then thanked Mr. and Mrs. Johnson for the use of Vail Lake as their training area . The CO also thanked the city and said that the Young Marines are proud of their City and that they have been waiting for this award for a long time. The Mayor acknowledge that 3 years is a long time and that the City's Young Marines are a shining example for all of their fellow citizens. The Young Marines returned to their seats and listened politely as more awards were handed out . The County's Supervisor Mr. Jeff Stones’ wife approached CO Guiles and asked him to have the Young Marines hang around for a while. The CO returned once again to the front of the Council Chambers to meet with Senator Dennis Hollingsworth's Representative Mrs. Rita Massie. After Mrs. Massie thanked the Young Marines the Adjutant had the Young Marines gave the Council members and Mrs. Massie a motivation check it was very loud, they startled a few people but they made their presents known. 

The City was recognizing Mr. Gary Thornhill's retirement, Mr. Stone stood up and said Mr. Thornhill before I begin and not to steal your thunder, I would like to further recognize the accomplishments of the Temecula Valley Young Marines. I believe these young people are the future of our country.  Their work is outstanding in their community and for the veterans.  For everything they have done and worked so hard for, we the City of Temecula would like to donate $5,000 to the Temecula Valley Young Marines.  CO Guiles was invited to attend a Riverside County Supervisors meeting to accept the check with a few Young Marines in tow next Tuesday. What a great evening it was!  This was the culmination of 3 years of very hard and intense work for the Temecula Valley Young Marines. The rewards for a job well done can be astounding sometimes.
