TVYM’s VETRANS APPRECIATION WEEK 2010
FORE!!!
On November 6th the Temecula Valley Young Marines were out on the golf course in force to help Marine Corps League Detachment 1057 with their first annual golf tournament. In early August CO Guiles and the Unit Adjutant Mrs. Guiles were contacted about helping out the Marine Corps League detachment with their golf tournament. Things took shape during the next three months flyers made and passed out donations came in a website was created. The time passed pretty fast and the tournament was upon us the League only needed a few Young Marines present to help out so the word was put out. The unit ended up taking 23 of their Young Marines to the golf course and did they impress everyone. As the Young Marines arrived they helped set up the raffle tables, handed out the golfers goodie bags and helped get the tournament ready. All of the carts were lined up and the day began.
A few Young Marines started helping Mrs. Guiles and Mrs. Munoz sell raffle tickets
and the rest were marched to their positions on the golf course
. Unfortunately Marine Corps support could not join us so the Young Marines had to take on dual positions. Young Marine Sgt. Major Guiles helped out the Marine Corps League in a different way and paid $85 dollars to golf in the tournament. No big deal for the Young Marines Some Young Marines were placed at specific holes to help measure the closest to the pin hole, or the longest drive holes
. The senior Young Marines ensured the junior Young Marines were taken care of and safe. While Mr. Criske and Mr. Colvin were given golf carts to check on the Young Marines around the course. Mr. Colvin took some great pictures of the day.
Fortunately for everyone the day was a nice cool 76 degrees, the Young Marines did an outstanding job they were on post from 0900 to 2000. The Young Marines greeted players and they made sure that the Young Marines organization was represented very well. We are still receiving phone calls about how nice it was to be called sir or mam and how great it was to have the Young marines helping out.
At one point Young Marines MGySgt. Guiles, 1Sgt. Currier and LCpl. McDaneld helped a gentleman fold a 48 star American flag properly
,
. He said the flag was carried by the first Marine killed in action during World War I. His grandfather had left it to him and he did not know how to properly fold it. So our Young Marines were happy to help him out.
Everyone was helping whether they were working on the course, golfing or selling raffle tickets. They were all helping out the Marine Corps Leagues fundraiser. As the day ended the Young Marines were sent home the CO and Mrs. Guiles wrapped up the day with the CO as the raffle auction MC and Mrs. Guiles making sure the CO did not mess up what prize was supposed to be handed out. Young Marines Sgt. Major Guiles and MGySgt. Guiles both helped clean up the area. It was a great day and the Marine Corps League Detachment 1057 is very proud of the Young marines support.
A big OOH-RAH!!! Comes from the leaguers and a huge thank you from the CO to the following Unit Personnel who put forth some great effort and represented the Unit and Young Marines Organization in a professional manner:
