"235 proud years"
On November 10th 2010, the Temecula Valley Young Marines participated in the celebration of the Marine Corps Birthday for their local community. The unit was asked to help out at the Richies diner in Temecula to help celebrate the 235th birthday of the Untied States Marine Corps. Among the distinguished guests that night were Col. Barney (USMC, Ret) and General Reinke (USMC, Ret). The birthday ceremony was kicked of as the Units color guard was called into the restaurant by Young Marine MGySgt. Guiles, the Young Marines marched the colors proudly into the restaurant as all of the restaurant guests and veterans were watching

As the Young Marines posted the colors Col. Barney played the National Anthem and everyone stood up
. General Reinke then talked about the Marine Corps Birthday and the birthplace of the Marine Corps
. After General Reinke's motivating speech Col. Barney had Young Marine 1stSgt. Currier play taps on his trumpet for those Marines and Sailors who can longer be with us. Col. Barney then talked about the significance of the cake cutting ceremony.
At the conclusion of Col. Barney's speech he began cutting the birthday cake, the first piece of cake went to the oldest Marine Present who was a World War II survivor and Marine Corps veteran
. The second piece of cake went to a 24 year old active duty Marine
. After the birthday cake had been handed out to the guest of honor the Young Marines grabbed trays and helped hand cake out to all of the patrons in Richies
. Mr. Colvin the Unit Historian took a lot of great pictures that night to help document the Young Marines hard at work.
It was a fun evening and again the Young Marines helped to keep the memory of the Marine Corps alive.
