TVYM’s VETRANS APPRECIATION WEEK 2010
"The Murrieta City Veterans Day Parade"
On November 11th, the Unit took part in the City of Murrieta’s Veterans Day parade. The Young Marines used their 20 foot trailer as a float for the Marine Corps League veterans of detachment 1057. As the float rolled down the parade route the young Marines marched behind it. And Young Marine Sgt. Major Guiles led a 7 Young marine Cadre that would re-enact the flag raising on Mt. Surabachi.
At 0800 the Young Marines gathered they helped decorate the float that would be used in the City of Murrieta's Veterans day parade
,
. The night before CO Guiles and Sgt. Noe picked up 6 Bales of straw for the Marine Corps League veterans to sit on
that were donated for the parade by "Dan's Feed & Seed" in old town Temecula.
Once the float was decorated the Young Marines took their positions LCpl. McDaneld led the Marchers, MGySgt. Guiles had the Unit banner and his sword ready and Sgt. Major Guiles had a special surprise the Surabachi flag demonstration team
. To kick of the parade the US Air Force did a fly over with a C-17 cargo plane at nearly tree top level (give or take a few hundred feet)
. Once the plane passed over and the clapping stopped the parade began.
The parade moved at a pretty good pace considering there were 2,000 entries, As the Unit passed the first police car they rounded the corner. The Marine Corps League Veterans were waving to the crowd and the Young Marines proudly marched behind them
. When the timing was right Young Marine Sgt. Major guiles would run out with his 7 Young Marine team and they would raise the flag in the same pose as the famous Iwo Jima picture and their patches. Then Young Marine Sgt. Major Guiles would take a step back and give a big salute
.
As the Parade started coming to an end there were a lot of people crowded it seems more people were at the end than the beginning or middle. The Young Marines lifted their heads higher and marched sharply. The flag raising team however had to repeat their raising twice each time they raised the flag. It seemed that a million cameras were taking their picture and video cameras and cell phones filmed the raising each time. As the crowd asked them to raise it again please !! So each time Young Marines Sgt. Major Guiles would raise the flag again and salute.
The Young Marines finally rounded the end of the parade corner, when they stopped they help dismantle the float and then took a picture with the Marine Corps League veterans
. It was an awesome parade and a great job by the Young Marines.
The Marine Corps League was very thankful for the Young Marines help. Great job supporting our Country's veterans on their special day Young Marines.
